Stock markets on Monday ended the trading day lower after a weak session of trade. Both the benchmark indices declined for the 5th straight session as rising oil prices, the US-Iran conflict and liquidity concerns continued to weigh on investor sentiment. The Nifty declined 0.32 percent and ended at 24,287.65, while the Sensex declined 0.36 percent and closed at 77,728.16. Broader markets ended the trading day with marginal gains, however sectoral indices ended the trading day on a mixed note.
G. Chokkalingam Head of Research at Equinomics Research told Times Now Digital that his “suggestion is to stay invested in quality stocks and manage the risk of capital market risk by diversifying overall financial wealth into safe fixed income securities and also by not investing borrowed money into equities.”
Crude oil prices surged on Monday as concerns on oil supply disruptions mounted after the sharp decline in vessel movements through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent Crude oil prices traded near 90 dollars per barrel and WTI Crude oil traded near 84 dollars per barrel (at the time of filing this copy). Global oil expert and CEO-Australia, Trading.com Peter McGuire had earlier told Times Now Digital, “tempers are rising, US is not going to back down, stakes are rising- impact on oil supplies will be seen more in Asia-China, Japan and India more than anywhere else. See the big picture to be alright, will be in wait and watch mode for how the US-Iran situation continues to unfold.”
