Shine-Maxxing is In! Why Everything from Your Face to Your Wardrobe is Getting Rhinestoned

Who knew something so sparkly, whimsy and rainbow-coded could turn into a bona fide staple?

We are in full agreement of the fact that trends are cyclical. But if there’s one thing that’s defining the 2025 vision board for aesthetics is a almost desperate gallop towards the joy of excess, no holds barred. And what’s better than glistening pint-sized pieces ready to bedazzle literally any surface you can conceive of? Welcome to the era of rhinestone-maxxing: the only rule is that there are none!

Your Face

Dabbling with rhinestones during the commencement of the Euphoria years was the epitome of ‘cool’ at the time, though the sparkly bits were exclusively used to enhance a sort of foxy aesthetic already set in place by what ‘Euphoria makeup’ meant. What’s going on right now however, is completely different. You aren’t supposed to monotone your rhinestones and only line your eyes with it. In the era of shine-maxxing it’s just as acceptable to make a moment of a face full of rhinestones! For reference, look at Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour album cover – she did it first! And as far as rhinestone makeup inspo goes, just remember to follow no lines.

When You Take it Off

Now if you thought rhinestones were just an add-on for your social hours, you’re sorely mistaken. These glimmering and colourful micro doses of dopamine have nestled their way into downtime routines as well. It’s cool and creative now to manually bedazzle the lip balm tube you can’t go to bed without, your skincare tray – or literally even your skincare! If you’re as obsessed as us with those cryo-rubber masks, go ahead and stick on a bunch of rhinestones while your face soaks in all the goodness. It’s the easiest way to top up your whimsy before your head hits the pillow.

F&B Included

Rhinestones may primarily be a fashion statement, but come to think of it, so is the glass you’re sipping your homemade margs out of, the knife you’re cutting into your cake with – and of course, your birthday cake itself!

To be fair, Kylie Jenner takes the cake (pun intended) for this considering her birthday eve bash held earlier this month was a princess pink, rhinestone-encrusted gala.

The bump in bejeweled cakes since then has been a rollercoaster to scroll through, though swirling edible glitter into your drinks has been around for a while – so if you have a birthday coming up, this is your sign, to go the shine-route. It comes Kylie-ordained.

Wardrobe (duh!)

This is the most obvious equation of the lot. After all, nothing screams ‘happy’ like a glistening OOTD that can’t help but catch the Sun. That being said, there’s a bit of a specificity when it comes to marrying your wardrobe to rhinestones. As far as your fashion statement in its most authentic sense is concerned, rhinestones work best when juxtaposed against a sheer surface. Bejeweled stockings and tights in this regard have been a big hit. Also think netted gloves, bikini tops, camisoles…the list goes on.

What’s with the Rhinestone Epidemic?

Because minimalism is boring! And we mean that in the most objective sense. This is not a takedown of the one-size-fits-all minimalist aesthetic. There’s a lot of peace is knowing how your beige walls would work as well with white upholstery as it would with pink ones and how you can pair that taupe pair of trousers in your closet with a crisp B&W shirt and your trusty sand-hued flats call it a day on the styling front – but that’s exactly what’s getting everyone’s goat now. See the thing with minimalism is that you have to follow the ground rules the aesthetic itself comes with, in order to pull it off properly, making the whole routine feel incredibly predictable no matter how visually soothing a finish may feel. With something as expansive as rhinestones it is literally impossible to replicate someone else’s take on it down to a T – it’s a whimsy and wild ride through and through, irrespective of if you want to bedazzle your face, your food or your clothes. The core goal here is to have fun and the aesthetic itself works out the rest.
